Alternate Entry 5

Rogue sat back and stared at the picture on the wall. It didn't matter that the room was rather dark, and the picture was an old one. He sat back in his black BDUs, placed his feet on the beat up old desk, and ran a hand through his long and mussed up brown hair as his cold green eyes fixated themselves on the picture.

Up on the wall was the first picture taken of Oversight, back when it was first formed. There were fourteen members back then, compared to the "offical" twelve now. He had been one of the first Overseers, wearing the title of Snake for his uncanny ability to get a mission done under any circumstance, and to do so without being detected. 'Those were they days,' he thought to himself, 'Fresh out of the Corps, and disappreaing from the face of the Earth to be one of it's hidden protectors.' Now Snake wore the title Rogue, and that gave him overall command of Oversight. 'But the cost was too damned high!' his mind screamed from behind his cold gaze.

His eyes scanned the picture until they fell upon the image of a tall, 40-ish looking man with red hair. He was known as Firecrotch for his hot temper and hair, but he was also the second in command to the first Rogue. 'He was a mean sonuvabitch, but I would follow him into hell wearing only boxers drenched in fuel and a knife.'

Rogue barely noticed his gaze fall from the picture to the wall below it as his last memories of his former XO took control of his mind. Instantly, he was transported back in time to their mission in Laos, to eliminate a drug warlord who was seriously looking into nuclear weapons research. The mission went bad from the start, but it was accomplished nonetheless. Extraction was another story. Rogue had been a squad leader, and he was assigned to clear the path to the chopper. The enemy was putting up a fierce fight. The mortars were getting closer and closer to the chopper, until finally the pilot, another Overseer, had to leave, or no one would. Rogue's platoon had made it all aboard, along with two of Fire's unit. As they lifted off, Roggue distinctly remembered seeing Fire and his remaining men pull into the clearing that served as the extraction point.

Rogue has had shut on him without him noticing, and the images danced in his head unimpeded. 'If we had waited another few seconds, we wouldn't have.....and they wouldn't be....'

He sat there and shed a few tears. Oversight never found out what happened to the missing men, even to this day. They tried searching various government databases, even returning to the battlfield to look for clues. But nothing.

Rogue opened his eyes, and now stared at the ceiling. 'Rest well, Firecrotch, we will never forget you.'

I joined the POW/MIA ring that I found on Witch Medic's diary. It made me think because my brother Matt is in the Corps, and he desperately wants into Force Recon. I know he'll make it, and I know that they do a lot of missions that can never be acknowledged. I hope he makes into Recon, because he does deserve it. But I don't like thinking about what could happen to him. He's a good soldier, and tougher than a Craftsman socket wrench, but I'd hate to have him spend his days in a POW camp not even knowing how his daughter, or his family, missed him.
